Deputies find two underfed horses, two dead foals on El Paso County property

EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. - A woman is facing charges after deputies found two severely underfed horses and two dead foals on a property east of Colorado Springs Wednesday.

Deputies said around 9:45 a.m. Wednesday, they went to the property on Meridian Road just south of Blarney Road as part of an ongoing animal cruelty investigation. They seized two severely emaciated horses and took them to an ASPCA-approved boarding facility, according to the sheriff's office. They also found the remains of two foals. The remains were taken to the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region, where necropsies will be conducted to determine how they died.

A suspect, 29-year-old Sara Simpson, was served and released Thursday on two counts of animal cruelty, which is a misdemeanor.
