A man who crashed his car and died in eastern Colorado Springs Thursday morning likely suffered a medical emergency, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

Troopers said the crash happened around 10 a.m. at the Wrangler motel and RV park on Platte Avenue just east of Powers Boulevard. The man was driving a Ford Ranger down a private road when he hit a concrete retaining wall at a high rate of speed.

The driver, 58-year-old Forrest Ford, died on the scene. Troopers said a medical cause is suspected.

Troopers said two dogs that were in the truck were also killed in the crash. One died on the scene, and the other died at a later time.
