PENROSE, Colo. — One person was killed and two others were injured in a crash on Highway 115 in Fremont County early Friday morning, according to the Colorado State Patrol.
The crash happened around 1:15 a.m. on Highway 115 about six miles north of Penrose. Troopers said a Chevrolet Suburban was traveling northbound, partially in the southbound lane, when it collided head-on with a Toyota Tundra that was headed southbound in the southbound lane.
The driver of the Suburban died on the scene. That person’s name has not yet been released.
The driver and passenger in the Toyota were both injured. Troopers said the pedestrian sustained serious injuries but is expected to survive. There’s no word on the extent of the driver’s injuries. Troopers said both were wearing their seatbelts.
Troopers said alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
The highway was closed in both directions between Barrett Road to the north and Country Road F45 to the south while troopers investigated the crash. It reopened around 6:15 a.m.
