A large blue photo frame that caused controversy when it was installed in Garden of the Gods last week will be removed, the city announced Monday.
The 12-foot frame, which is branded with “Olympic City USA,” was installed in the High Point parking lot just off Ridge Road.
The city said they put up the frame for those visiting Garden of the Gods to capture their experience and the beauty of Olympic City USA in a unique way. The city originally planned to re-evaluate the location of the frame at the end of 2018. But by Monday morning, an online petition asking the city to remove the frame had garnered more than 20,000 signatures.
City officials said Monday morning that they are removing the frame from its current location and relocating it.
“We have received some very thoughtful citizen comments asking for its relocation and we thank those citizens who took the time for constructive communication,” city officials said in a statement. “In recognition of public sentiment, we are in the process of removing the frame from its current location. While the initial execution was flawed, we are excited about the opportunity to eventually relocate the frame to a spot where it can meet its original objectives and become an amenity for both our visitors and our local residents to enjoy.”
