A child abuse investigation is underway after an SUV with a mom and two daughters inside ended up in the Arkansas River Sunday, according to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.

Investigators said the mother and two daughters were headed northbound on Highway 207 near Manzanola. As they approached the Arkansas River bridge, the SUV left the road and landed in the river.

Investigators said a passerby called emergency responders, who rescued the two girls, ages 10 and 8. They found the mother outside of the SUV.

Investigators said all three sustained serious injuries, but are expected to survive.

Investigators are still trying to determine what led up to the crash. They said their investigation “involves allegations involving possible child abuse.”

No arrests have been made.
