Hundreds of backpacks carrying essential care items are now ready for homeless veterans in our area.
Thursday, dozens of volunteers from AAA gathered together to assemble 300 backpacks. The packs contain donated items like toothbrushes, socks, hats, gloves, snacks, and more.
Volunteers say it’s all for those who have served our country, and now need a little help from us.
“These are people who have served our country and who have helped us out, protected our country,” homeowner claims supervisor Gary Jones said. “So just to understand that, you know what, thank them for their service, be there if they need something, and just support them whenever you can.”
“They’re very, very thankful for what they’re getting,” executive assistant Cresta Derry said. “A lot of them, it was very humbling. They’re very modest about what they get.”
The volunteers also made goodie bags for vets who have dogs, containing items like leashes and pet snacks.
The care packages will be handed out on November 9, just before Veterans Day.
AAA plans to do this every year, as long as there are homeless veterans in need.
