This week is National Engineers Week.
To celebrate, 100 Colorado ninth graders turned into engineers as the brought Earth to Mars in a new Challenger Center STEM program.
The program was delivered by Challenger Center educators at four different high schools this week, and Earth to Mars includes a simulated rocket launch and an engineering design challenge where students simulate sending a payload to Mars and track storms and trajectory to ensure everything is performing as expected.
“It’s out of your comfort zone a little bit, like, just thinking of something that’s way bigger than you are. It’s just really interesting, like, learning about this, like, oh my gosh!” said ninth grader Amaya Gonzalez.
The students also participate in an engineering design challenge, where they design components for a future Mars habitat.
