(COLORADO SPRINGS) — According to CSPD, officers originally responded to the 2200 block of East Las Vegas Street, between Janitell Road and South Circle Drive, just before 8 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29 on a reported two-car crash.

CSPD said when officers arrived, they found a roll-off garbage truck and a small car had been involved in the crash. Officers learned that the trash truck was heading south on Las Vegas and the car was heading north. CSPD said it appears that the car crossed the median and into the southbound lane, and was hit by the truck.

The driver was pronounced dead on the scene, CSPD said. East Las Vegas Street was closed for several hours following the crash, but reopened shortly before noon on Tuesday.

The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) and Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) are working on a fatal crash that has closed East Las Vegas Street between Janitell Road and the 2700 block of E. Las Vegas St.

CSPD said the closure is expected for several hours, and CSFD is asking drivers to avoid the area and find an alternate route of travel.
