COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Hundreds of Fort Carson soldiers were welcomed home Tuesday.
They are with the 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, and were deployed in support of operations Spartan Shield and Inherent Resolve. They were reunited with their loved ones during morning and afternoon ceremonies after being away from their families on a nine-month deployment in southwest Asia. Two-hundred and forty soldiers were welcomed home and tears of joy filled the room.
“We’re happy to have him home,” said Stacy Killion, wife of Sgt. Michael Killion, who couldn’t have been happier to be back home with her and their sons.
“It’s just really exciting,” Sgt. Killion said. “We went through a lot through this deployment and it’s just exciting being back after being gone for so long.”
FOX21 caught a reunion between a father and his little girl who just couldn’t wait to hug her daddy.
“Cara, she made eye contact with me in the crowd and decided she wanted to say hello a little early so she ran up and gave me a big hug and I just returned the hug back to her,” Lt. Daniel Oglesby said.
He had to choose between breaking formation and denying her hug, but we have a feeling it wasn’t a hard choice.
“I was trying to decide whether or not it was good practice to break formation, but I didn’t have the heart in me to not give my little baby a hug, so I had to go ahead and bend over and give her a hug and kiss on the forehead,” said Oglesby.
But for many families, this isn’t the first time their heroes are coming back home.
“This is our back to back deployment so he just got home with first brigade a couple years ago so we’re happy to have him home again,” Stacy Killion said.
