Driver leaves scene of Otero County crash that killed passenger

OTERO COUNTY, Colo. — Troopers are trying to determine who was driving a truck that crashed in Otero County Sunday morning, killing the passenger.

The crash happened around 10:45 a.m. on Otero County Road 21, about one mile south of Otero County Road Y. That’s about nine miles south of Rocky Ford. The Colorado State Patrol said a 1990 Nissan pickup truck was headed southbound when it went off the right side of the road. The driver overcorrected, and the truck went off the left side of the road and rolled, landing on the passenger side.

The passenger, a 68-year-old man from Rocky Ford, died on the scene. Troopers said he was not wearing his seatbelt.

Troopers said they don’t yet know who was driving the truck, because the driver left the scene.

Anyone with information on the crash is asked to call Trooper Art Gumke at 719-544-2424.
