Denver man sentenced for producing child porn

DENVER — A Denver man has been sentenced to 21 years in prison for producing child pornography.

Michael Yellowhorse, 29, was sentenced Wednesday. He faces 21 years in federal prison, followed by 10 years on supervised release. He is also required to register as a sex offender.

Yellowhorse was charged in December 2014 and pled guilty to the crimes in March 2016. Prosecutors said the day he was originally scheduled to be sentenced, he cut off his ankle monitor and ran away. He was caught in Texas, where he crashed into a car and led police on a chase, according to prosecutors.

Prosecutors said the investigation was initiated by the Queensland Police Service in Australia. Their investigators found a photo-sharing website that was being used to exchange child porn. An investigator found Yellowhorse’s profile on the website and emailed him. After exchanging emails, Yellowhorse sent the investigator an image of child porn, according to prosecutors.

Investigators here searched Yellowhorse’s home and found a laptop and cell phone containing images of child pornography. They also found an object that was in the background of the image he sent to the investigator.

Prosecutors said the victim, an 8-year-old, was in Yellowhorse’s care when the photos were taken. Yellowhorse took photos on two separate dates, according to prosecutors. The victim appeared to be sleeping in the photos.

Investigators also found more than 250 images of other children on Yellowhorse’s laptop and cell phone. They said he had visited the photo-sharing website thousands of times.
