U-Haul driver makes illegal U-turn, causes four-car crash in Colorado Springs


COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — A driver has been cited for careless driving after causing a four-car crash Monday afternoon.

It happened in the area of Woodmen Road and North Powers Boulevard around 4:38 p.m.

According to authorities, a U-Haul traveling south on Powers tried to make a U-Turn at an access in the median designated for emergency vehicles only. When the U-Haul attempted to turn, it crossed over another traffic lane where a pickup truck with a large trailer was traveling southbound.

Police said the truck broadsided the U-Haul and both vehicles traveled across the center median where they collided with a SUV traveling northbound.

The SUV rolled, hitting a fourth vehicle that was also northbound in the next lane over.

The driver of the U-Haul was transported to the hospital. No other people were injured in the crash.

Northbound Powers was shut down as a result, causing significant traffic back ups in the area.
