Texting, speeding considered factors in Pueblo County car crash

PUEBLO COUNTY, Colo. — Colorado State Patrol is investigating a single-car crash that happened Sunday afternoon near Boone.

It happened on Highway 96 mile post 72, about three miles west of Boone in Pueblo around 3 p.m.

Authorities say a 2005 Ford Freestar was traveling westbound on Highway 96 when it went off the right side of the road. The driver corrected back onto the road but went back to the right, going off the right side of the road.

The Ford rotated clockwise and started to roll, finally coming to rest against a power pole, according to authorities.

The driver, 22-year-old Jennifer Venzor of Boone, Colorado, was transported to Parkview Medical Center where she was treated for serious injuries. She was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Authorities say alcohol and drug use is not suspected, but exceeding the posted speed limit and texting while driving are being considered as contributing factors.

Authorities want to remind drivers not to text while driving.
