COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — A teen is facing assault charges for hitting an officer in downtown Colorado Springs Wednesday evening, according to police.

Just before 6 p.m., police were called to the bus station on Kiowa Street to investigate a report of skateboarders who were intentionally blocking traffic. When the officers arrived, the skateboarders ran away. The officers found them on Tejon Street. When they tried to detain one, a 17-year-old boy, he became combative and hit an officer several times, according to police.

The teen tried to run away again, but a sheriff’s lieutenant who was eating in the area helped the officers arrest him. He was cited for second-degree assault and taken to Spring Creek.
