Police have arrested a sword-wielding man who robbed a bank in Colorado Springs Tuesday.
According to authorities, the suspect, 39-year-old Anthony Hammond, entered the TCF Bank near Austin Bluffs and Academy around 11:30 a.m. Hammond demanded money from the teller and fled the scene on foot with an unknown amount of cash.
Witnesses saw Hammond run into a nearby apartment complex that was quickly contained by responding officers. According to police, Hammond had barricaded himself inside an apartment. He was taken into custody a short time later.
There were no reported injuries.
Detectives searched the apartment and recovered items related to the robbery, including a large amount of cash.
Additionally, detectives were able to identify Hammond in connection with a nearby grocery store robbery on Dec. 12, where the robber was also wielding a sword. Items related to the grocery store robbery were also recovered in the apartment.
Hammond was charged with both aggravated robberies and booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center.
