A suspect was shot and injured by police during an investigation in southeastern Colorado Springs Wednesday.
Colorado Springs police responded to reports of a disturbance at a third-floor apartment at Arbor Pointe on Hancock Expressway.
According to police, at least one shot was fired by a CSPD officer. Two officers were involved in the shooting. Neither was injured. One suspect was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.
The two officers involved in the shooting are on paid administrative leave.
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office has taken over the investigation, as is protocol in officer-involved shootings.
Police said there are no suspects at large, and there is no danger to the public.
After the shooting, fire crews were called to the same residence. A spokesperson for CSFD said the fire was in a single unit and firefighters were able to get it under control within a few minutes. No firefighters were injured.
About 70 people were evacuated and are now displaced from their homes while the investigation continues. The American Red Cross is stepping in to help.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
