A caretaker is facing charges after deputies seized 11 neglected horses from a property in eastern El Paso County Thursday, according to the sheriff’s office.
Deputies said they searched the property, which is on Ramah Highway about three miles north of Highway 94, as part of an ongoing animal neglect investigation. Deputies had received several complaints that many of the horses on the property were emaciated and weren’t getting enough food.
A veterinarian examined the 17 horses on the property and determined 11 of them were in poor condition and severely underweight due to neglect. Deputies said the conditions on the property were unacceptable, and there wasn’t enough food to provide nutrition for all the horses.
The 11 neglected horses were seized and are being held in an ASPCA-approved boarding facility.
Deputies questioned the caretakers of the property, Tiffany Phillips and Jaden Hahn. Hahn was served and released for 11 counts of animal neglect.
