Police are looking for the man who assaulted a driver and stole the car after asking for a ride in central Colorado Springs Wednesday evening.

Police said around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, the victim was stopped at the intersection of Nevada Avenue and Cache La Poudre Street when a man approached and asked if he could get a ride to a convenience store two miles away at Nevada Avenue and Fillmore Street.

The victim accepted, and when they arrived, the suspect pulled a handgun out of his backpack and laid it on his leg, according to police. He then reached over to pull the keys out of the ignition. A fight ensued, and the suspect punched the victim in the face and neck and threw the victim out of the car.

The suspect then drove away in the victim’s car.

Police said the victim sustained minor injuries and declined medical attention.

No suspects have been arrested.
