Deputies have arrested a wanted fugitive after a search near University Village Friday morning.

Deputies said their investigation began around 6:15 a.m., when they got a call about a disturbance at a home on South Circle Drive near the intersection with Janitell Road. The suspect, 28-year-old Joshua Johnson, left as deputies were arriving.

Investigators determined that Johnson had broken into his ex-girlfriend’s house and threatened her with a gun. The victim told deputies the truck Johnson was driving contained several guns. Deputies also determined he was on parole, and was wanted on outstanding warrants.

Around 7 a.m., deputies found the truck in the parking lot of an apartment complex near University Village. When they spotted Johnson, he ran away. Deputies chased him, but he disappeared in a drainage tunnel near Interstate 25.

Deputies, police, K9s, and drone operators joined the search for Johnson. He was arrested without further incident around 10 a.m.

Johnson is charged with burglary, felony menacing, possession of a weapon by a previous offender, assault, harassment, and the outstanding warrants.
