Police have arrested a suspect in connection with an attempted carjacking at a Pueblo car wash Saturday.
Police said the carjacking attempt happened around 6:30 p.m. Saturday at National Pride Car Wash on Highway 50 in Pueblo. Police said a woman was drying the hood of her car while her 15-year-old daughter was sitting in the passenger seat. The suspect, 37-year-old Scott Mendoza, got into the driver’s seat and unsuccessfully tried to start the car, according to police. The woman screamed at him to get out of the car. He tried to close the driver’s side door, but the woman stopped him. The daughter then got out of the car, taking the key fob with her. When the woman told her daughter to call police, Mendoza ran away, according to police.
Witnesses saw Mendoza run across the Pueblo County Club golf course. Officers found and arrested him on North Elizabeth Street.
Mendoza is charged with attempted aggravated motor vehicle theft, in addition to an outstanding warrant.
