(COLORADO SPRINGS) — David Weingarten, the Colorado Springs man accused of shooting his wife and infant son to death in February of 2022, has been deemed incompetent to stand trial.

David Weingarten was arrested on Feb. 1, 2022 after he called police and said he’d just shot his wife, 26-year-old Lizet Salinas-Mijangos, and their eight-month-old son, George Weingarten.  David told police on the phone when he placed the call that he’d “been hearing things,” and something just came over him, according to arrest documents.

David’s one-year-old daughter with Salinas-Mijangos was also inside the home at the time of the shooting, but was unharmed, police said.

Weingarten was charged with two counts of First Degree Murder in the deaths of his wife and son.

On Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2023, the 4th Judicial District Attorney’s Office confirmed that Weingarten had been found incompetent to stand trial once again. He has now been evaluated for competency three times, the DA’s Office said.

The court has ordered competency restoration services before Weingarten can stand trial.
