PUEBLO, Colo. — A man facing attempted murder charges for a shooting in 2015 is now suspected in a murder the same week, according to the Pueblo Police Department.

The first shooting happened August 31, 2015 in the area of Ivywood Lane and Moore Avenue. The victim, 39-year-old Carlos Montoya, was hospitalized. The second shooting happened September 2, 2015 on Court Street. Isaiah Vialpando was killed in that shooting.

Leo Montoya, 23, was jailed August 12 in connection with the first shooting. He is now charged with first-degree murder for the second shooting.

Police said both shootings appear to be cases of mistaken identity, as Leo Montoya was looking for the person responsible for shooting and paralyzing him. Both victims were Hispanic men who were driving silver BMWs when they were shot.
