COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Police arrested a man on his ninth DUI charge after an accident Monday night.
Police said the accident happened around 10 p.m. in the 1500-block of South Nevada Avenue. As part of the accident investigation, police arrested William Nance, 54, on DUI charges.
Police said Nance has been convicted on eight DUI or DUI-related offenses. Court records show he was convicted of DWI in Texas in 1983, DUI in Texas in 1990, DUI in Texas in 1991, DUI in Texas in 1993, DUI in Texas in 1995, DUI in Texas in 1999, DWAI in Chaffee County in 2005, and DUI in El Paso County in 2009.
Police said several people have been arrested on felony DUI charges in Colorado Springs since August 5, when Colorado’s new felony DUI law went into effect. The law states a fourth DUI conviction is punishable by up to six years in prison and a fine of up to $500,000. Previously, repeat DUI offenders were only charged with misdemeanors.
