COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — A man was arrested on motor vehicle theft and drug charges after running from police in southeastern Colorado Springs Thursday morning, according to police.

Police said the incident happened around 11:50 a.m. in the area of Hancock Expressway and Delta Drive. An officer was headed to an unrelated call when he was flagged down by a woman at a gas pump. He then saw a man running from a Jeep that had been reported stolen in El Paso County. The officer watched the man run away and directed other officers into the neighborhood he was running to. Several officers saturated the area and found the suspect, 31-year-old Chad Tipton, less than a block from the stolen vehicle.

Police said Tipton resisted officers’ efforts to detain him, so he was tased.

At the time of his arrest, according to police, Tipton had a baggy containing a white powder that police suspected was a schedule two controlled substance.

Tipton was arrested for motor vehicle theft, drug charges, and an outstanding warrant.
