PUEBLO, Colo. (December 19, 2016) — Police have identified a second suspect who they say tried to set a police car on fire Tuesday night.
The incident happened while police were investigating a report of a stolen car on Denver Boulevard. While they were investigating, three people drove by, threw an unknown accelerant, and started a fire on the street near two patrol cars. The fire damaged one of the cars, according to police.
One suspect, 34-year-old Raul Salinas, was arrested that day. Police have identified a second suspect as Christopher Betz, 37. Police said Betz is also wanted on motor vehicle theft charges in connection with the same incident.
Betz is also a person of interest in an attempted robbery at the Alta convenience store on North Elzabeth Street earlier that day. Police said Betz was seen jumping behind the store’s counter and trying to steal lottery tickets.
Betz is also wanted on unrelated warrants for failure to appear, theft, and burglary.
UPDATE (January 5, 2017): Betz has been arrested after an incident at an apartment complex in Adams County. Police said Betz was shot during the incident and is in the hospital.
