COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — A man has been arrested for driving under the influence after he hit a motorcycle and caused injuries to both occupants Saturday night.

Police responded to the serious traffic accident shortly before 10:30 p.m. in the area of 15th Street and West Colorado Avenue.

According to authorities, a SUV traveling eastbound on Colorado Avenue at 15th Street struck a motorcycle. The two occupants of the motorcycle were ejected and both were transported to a local hospital for treatment. The passenger was treated for serious injuries.

Both motorcycle occupants were wearing helmets, which police say played a factor in minimizing their injuries.

Police say the driver of the SUV, Timothy Ahr, was determined to be driving under the influence and was arrested.

The accident prompted the closure of West Colorado Avenue in both directions during the investigation. Lanes reopened around 4 a.m.
