Man arrested after threatening officers east of downtown Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - A man is facing misdemeanor charges after threatening officers who came to arrest him east of downtown Colorado Springs early Wednesday morning.

Police said around 12:40 a.m., they got a call about a suspicious person in the front yard of a home on East Costilla Street near the intersection with El Paso Street. The resident told police the man was screaming obscenities and stabbing a soda can with a screwdriver or knife. When a resident went outside to tell him to leave, the man started yelling obscenities at the resident.

When officers arrived, they told the suspect, 22-year-old Stephen Arellano, to get down on the ground. He refused and threatened the officers. Police eventually subdued and arrested him. He is facing multiple misdemeanor charges.
