A man was arrested after he jumped from a second-floor balcony in an attempt to evade officers in southern Colorado Springs Tuesday night, according to police.

Police said around 11:55 p.m., they went to an apartment on Tenderfoot Hill Road, which is in the area of Lake Avenue and Venetucci Boulevard, to arrest 26-year-old Jaime Cardona. Cardona was wanted for escape and had multiple felony warrants, according to police.

While talking with people in the front door of the apartment, officers saw Cardona appear in the living room, according to police. Cardona then stepped onto the front balcony of the second-floor apartment and jumped to the ground below. He then tried to run away, but a K9 quickly apprehended him, according to police.

Cardona was charged with obstructing a peace officer, resisting arrest, and animal abuse, along with the outstanding warrants.

Police said a second suspect, 43-year-old Elizabeth Hopkins, was arrested on charges of obstructing a peace officer for interfering with Cardona’s arrest.
