COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — A man is facing multiple charges after he punched a security guard and a police officer Monday evening, according to police.

Police said the incident happened around 7:30 p.m. at the Salvation Army warming shelter on South Weber Street. Police were called to investigate a report of a man punching a security guard. When officers arrived, they found the suspect sitting by the entrance door. Without warning, according to police, the man stood up and punched an officer in the face. The officer fought back, with help from security personnel.

The suspect, 29-year-old Mikayahu Del Castillo, was eventually subdued and arrested. He faces charges of second-degree assault on a peace officer and third-degree assault.

Police said the officer sustained minor injuries to his face. The suspect sustained injuries that didn’t require medical treatment.
