Man accused of fatally shooting father while handling gun

A man is accused of fatally shooting his father while handling a gun in Colorado Springs Monday afternoon, according to police. 

Police said around 4:15 p.m., first responders went to an address on Galley Road to help a man who was not breathing. They determined the man was dead, and discovered a possible gunshot wound. 

Police investigated and determined the victim, 50-year-old Patrick Bustamante of Colorado Springs, had been hit by a single round fired from a gun being handled by his son. 

The son, 23-year-old Patrick Salazar-Bustamante, has been arrested on manslaughter charges. 

Bustamante’s death is the 33rd homicide in Colorado Springs this year. At this time last year, there were 31.
