K9 helps arrest Colorado Springs motor vehicle theft suspect


COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — A police K9 helped arrest a motor vehicle theft suspect Friday morning, according to police.

Police said the incident happened around 1 a.m. in the 3900-block of Galley Road. An officer tried to stop a vehicle that was listed as stolen. The driver pulled into the parking lot of an apartment complex, got out of the vehicle, jumped a fence, and ran south toward Galley Road, according to police. Two other people in the vehicle were detained.

Meanwhile, officers set up a perimeter and found the driver. A K9 contacted him, so he was taken to Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The stolen vehicle was processed and returned to its owner. The driver, Dion Thompson, was arrested and charged with aggravated motor vehicle theft.
