Inmate escapes from Cañon City prison

The Colorado Department of Corrections is searching for an inmate who escaped from a Cañon City prison early Tuesday morning. 

Prison officials said Michael Onorato, 37, was missing from the 3 a.m. count at Four Mile Correctional Center. Onorato was at work on an outside work crew at the cow dairy the day before he went missing. 

Prison officials said the clothing Onorato was wearing when he escaped has been found on a riverbank in Florence. They don’t know what he’s wearing now. 

Onorato is serving time for motor vehicle theft, drug abuse, and robbery. He is eligible for parole in November 2020 and is set to be released in November 2023. 

Onorato is described as a white man with brown hair, brown eyes, and facial hair. He’s about 5 feet 4 inches tall and 144 pounds.
