A felony suspect is facing additional charges after he punched an officer while he was being arrested in southeastern Colorado Springs Thursday morning, according to police.

Police said around 8:30 a.m., they got a complaint about people camping on Deerfield Hills Road, which is in the area of Hancock Expressway and Milton Proby Parkway. One of the suspects, Albin Ruiz, had multiple felony warrants for his arrest, according to police. The other suspect, Amber Chambers, lied to officers about his identity, according to police.

While officers were trying to arrest Ruiz, he punched one of them, according to police. The officers tased him multiple times, but Ruiz continued to resist, according to police. A second officer and Ruiz were both injured in the struggle.

Ruiz was arrested on charges of second-degree assault and resisting arrest, along with the warrants. Chambers was arrested on charges of attempt to influence a public official.
