The ex-boyfriend of murdered Kelsie Schelling was in court Tuesday afternoon.
Donthe Lucas was charged with the murder Schelling after a multi-year-long investigation.
Schelling, 21, was eight weeks pregnant when she disappeared February 4, 2013, after driving from Denver to Pueblo. She was supposed to meet Lucas, her boyfriend at the time, at the Walmart on Northern Avenue.
Donthe Lucas, 25, was already in jail on unrelated robbery charges when he was served with the arrest warrant in December of 2017 for Schelling’s murder.
“Doing this for 5 and a half years has definitely taken a toll,” said Laura Saxton, Kelsie’s mom. “It’s going to be excruciating for me, just waiting these 90 days for the arraignment was already tough. “
Saxton knows its going to be a long road ahead.
“Hopefully going through this long process, at some point is going to lead us to where she is. We hope we don’t come out on the other end and still don’t have her back,” Saxton said. “We don’t feel that donate should get away with this, but that’s secondary to finding Kelsie. that’s still our biggest hope and our biggest desire is that we’ll be able to bring her home.”
Donthe Lucas’ attorneys also moved to change venue due to the large amount of media coverage this case has received. Judge will hear that motion on Feb 7&8. Scheduled motions hearing dates.— CMoore News® (@CMoore_News) August 28, 2018
