A DUI suspect is facing multiple charges after he assaulted a police officer at a Colorado Springs hospital Monday afternoon, according to police.
Police said around 2:30 p.m., they got a call about a crash on East Woodmen Road in Colorado Springs. The caller told police the driver was walking away from the scene. Officers found him and took him into custody for careless driving and driving under the influence. He consented to a chemical test of his blood, and was taken to the hospital, according to police. While he was there, the suspect, identified as Alexander Greenly, assaulted one officer and tried to hurt another, according to police.
Police said one officer sustained a leg injury that prevented him from returning to duty.
Greenly was charged with assault and attempted assault on a peace officer, in addition to the traffic offenses.
