A woman is facing animal cruelty charges after deputies rescued two emaciated horses from a southern El Paso County property Wednesday morning.

Deputies said around 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, they executed a search warrant at a property on Hoss Point, which is in the Midway area south of Fountain. They found two horses that were emaciated and had been criminally neglected.

Deputies said they had previously tried to contact the owner of the horses, but had been unsuccessful. The owner, Dorice Justice, was served and released Thursday on two misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty.

Justice relinquished ownership of the horses to the sheriff’s office, according to deputies. They were taken to an approved boarding facility.
