An hourslong standoff in western Colorado Springs Wednesday night ended with a suspect in custody.
It happened around 7 p.m. at an apartment on West Dale Street, which is just west of Interstate 25 near downtown Colorado Springs. Police said it all started when the suspect, 37-year-old Michael Jones, fired three shots and yelled threats and racial slurs at someone who was in a public area next to his apartment. No one was injured by the shots.
Police surrounded Jones’ apartment, and when he refused to come out, got search and arrest warrants. The suspect came out on his own around 11 p.m., according to police. He was arrested on charges of felony menacing, bias-motivated crimes, and prohibited use of weapons.
Several homes in the area were evacuated during the standoff.
