A Colorado Springs man has been sentenced to federal prison for illegally possessing guns and for illegally reentering the United States, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Denver.

Jose Cordova-Saldana, 29, was sentenced Thursday to a year and six months in federal prison. He pled guilty to the crimes on March 5.

Prosecutors said on November 24, Cordova-Saldana fired multiple guns into the air during a drunken joy ride with friends in Colorado Springs. Police later found him passed out in the backset of a pickup truck, surrounded by guns, ammunition, and shell casings.

Prosecutors said Cordova-Saldana had been convicted of assault in January 2014, and was deported to Mexico later that year after serving a jail sentence.

Prosecutors said Cordova-Saldana will be deported to Mexico again after serving his prison sentence.
