5-year-old boy offers one dollar to save mom from intruders

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Court records reveal what may have led to the fatal June 1 shooting of 29-year-old Courtney Beaudette at the Shannon Glenn Apartments on North Murray Boulevard.

Four people are now facing murder charges.

It started with a phone call with 19-year-old Shayanna Burton telling her boyfriend, 18-year-old Dylan Peters that she was, “cut on the neck by another boyfriend during a fight.”

Soon after, Peters, 20-year-old Michael Brown, 19-year-old Matthew Moore Jr. and an unidentified Hispanic man decided to go to Burton’s other’s boyfriend’s apartment to get her belongings and scare him for what he did to Burton.

Peters, Moore and Brown were all armed as Burton guided them to Beaudette’s apartment.

According to court documents, the men burst through the door and demanded money.

When Beaudette said she didn’t have any, “Moore told the female to strip.”

Beaudette removed her shirt, but refused to go on.

Police say her 5-year-old son then “went into his bedroom and retrieved a one dollar bill to give to the three men.”

That’s when police say Moore told Peters, “the gun went off while the female was reaching for it, trying to grab it.”

Police say this is the seventh homicide of the year.
