1 dead in northeast Colorado Springs shooting; 2 suspects arrested


COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Police are investigating a shooting that left one person dead and another injured in northeast Colorado Springs Monday night.

It happened just before 5:30 p.m. on La Plata Peak Drive, which is in the neighborhood northeast of Powers Boulevard and Stetson Hills Boulevard.

Police responded to the area after reports of shots fired. When officers arrived, they were told that shots were fired at a pickup truck truck that was no longer at the scene.

Offices located the truck a short time later in the area of Barnes Road and Tutt Boulevard.

Police say the bodies of two men were found inside. One man was dead with what appeared to be a gunshot wound, and the other man appeared to be wounded from a single gunshot wound, according to authorities.

The man who died has been identified as Manuel Vigil, 28, of Colorado Springs.

Police said Tuesday that two suspects have been arrested in connection with the shooting. They are William Prine, 23, and Matthew Houston, 27, both of Colorado Springs. Prine is charged with first-degree murder, and Houston is charged with complicity to murder in the first degree. No mugshots of the suspects were immediately available.

This is the sixth homicide of 2017 in Colorado Springs. At this time last year, there were no homicides.
