Colorado Springs Police respond to fatal motorcycle crash

News

COLORADO SPRINGS – Colorado Springs Police responded to a fatal motorcycle crash near Academy Blvd. and Astrozon Blvd. on Saturday evening around 8:00 p.m.

Police say that the southbound light was green and traffic was moving slowly.

As cars approached the green light for southbound Academy Boulevard they began to slow for an unknown reason.  A motorcycle driver attempted to slow as well, but ended up losing control of his vehicle and sliding into the concrete median in the entryway of the shopping complex where he was ejected from his motorcycle, according to police.

The man driving the motorcycle was wearing a helmet and died on scene. Police identify him as 22-year-old Kyle E. Wojciechowski of Tallmadge, Ohio.

Police say alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors in the crash. No charges are expected to be filed against anyone at this time.

CSPD’s Major Crash Team responded and assumed responsibility for the investigation.

This is the seventh traffic-related fatality in Colorado Springs, and the second motorcycle-related fatality, in 2020.

Anyone with information or who was a witness to this crash, is asked to call the Colorado Springs Police Department at (719) 444-7000.
