Colorado mom, 3 kids killed in head-on crash in Wyoming

BAGGS, Wyo. — Five people, including a Colorado mother and her three children, were killed in a two-car head-on crash on Highway 789 near Baggs, Wyoming on Friday, June 16.

According to Wyoming Highway Patrol, a Nissan Armada was traveling north on the highway when it crossed the center line and drifted into southbound traffic. The Nissan then collided with a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck pulling an enclosed trailer that was headed southbound.

Officials say both cars immediately caught on fire upon impact.

The driver of the Nissan has been identified as Heather White, 44, of Peyton, Colorado. The passengers in the car were her three children, identified as Bruce, 16, Megan, 15, and Scott, 12. All four occupants sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.

The driver of the Chevrolet pickup truck has been identified as Eric Hagen, 27, of Casper, Wyoming. Troopers say he was pulled from the flames by bystanders and was transported to Denver by helicopter ambulance. The passenger in the Chevrolet, identified as Katie O’Keefe, 28, also of Casper, Wyoming, died at the scene.

Wyoming Highway Patrol says driver inattention and speed by White (the driver of the Nissan Armada) are being investigated as contributing factors in this crash.

The investigation is ongoing.
