PUEBLO, Colo. — This is the first year that taxes from marijuana sales in Pueblo County will go toward college scholarships for graduating seniors.

A total of 25 $1,000 scholarships will be given out to students who meet the criteria. The scholarships are for students in Pueblo County who have a 3.0 GPA, who are planning on going to college in Pueblo County, and whose family demonstrates financial need.

“We are hoping that it will turn into a multi-year award for these students if they meet all of our criteria and continue to keep their GPA up,” Beverly Duran, executive director of the Pueblo Hispanic Education Foundation, said.

The foundation is awarding the scholarships. Students have until April 29 to apply on their website, phef.net .
