El Paso County Sheriff’s Office investigate officer-involved shooting at Palmer Park

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.– The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) is on the scene of a shooting that took place in the area of Maizeland Road and North Academy Boulevard.

Palmer Park entrance was closed for many hours Thursday evening as El Paso County Sheriff’s Office investigate the officer-involved shooting.

CSPD said around 4 p.m. robbery detectives located a suspect’s car involved in multiple bank robberies at the entrance of Palmer Park. When detectives approached the car the suspect inside fired at least one round at the detectives and at least one detective fired at least one round in return, according to CSPD.

The suspect who was shot was placed into custody and taken to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries. No detectives were injured.

CSPD said this was an isolated incident and there is no threat to the community at this time.

The Colorado Springs Police Officer involved in the shooting will be on paid administrative leave pending the investigation.

In accordance with Colorado Revised Statute 16-2.5-301, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is the lead investigative agency for this officer-involved shooting.
