COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The art of aerial silks is a stunning dance where someone suspends themselves between two strands of silk while doing body-bending moves that can blow your mind.

Sound difficult? That’s because it is.

Some who are learning the art at Yoga Mountain Shadows located at 4663 Centennial Boulevard said the lessons can be extremely impactful in everyday life.

Anne Lauritzen is a year in to aerial silks training.

“It is a hard work out. When I first started I think I was the most sore I’ve ever been in my whole life,” said Lauritzen.

It might not look like it, but you need to build a lot of strength to do this.

“Some of the technical skills definitely take some pretty significant strength and flexibility, but there’s lots of places you can start that you don’t necessarily have to have that at the very beginning,” said class instructor Elizabeth Fluharty.

Once you start building more strength and doing more maneuvers, Lauritzen said you’ll notice other changes.

“It builds my confidence and it spills over into other parts of my life and I start to act with more strength and more confidence at places outside of the studio,” said Lauritzen.

That can be helpful for anyone as they chase life’s dreams.

“To look back and see a video of myself doing things that I never thought I’d be able to do; to start asking questions about ‘ok, well, what else in my life can I do,”” said Laurtizen.

These classes aren’t just for women.
