The accolades continue for a Colorado Springs native who has been named a Rhodes Scholar. Serene Singh received the Spirit of the Springs award Monday.

Singh graduated from Rampart High School, and is the first woman from CU-Boulder to earn the coveted scholarship. She’s currently majoring in political science and journalism. Next fall, she’ll start her pursuit of a double Masters degree in criminology and criminal justice at Oxford.

“This award means a lot to me because Colorado Springs has always been my home,” Singh said. “As the mayor said, born and raised here in Colorado Springs, Colorado, right at the Air Force Academy. I’ve had my worst and best moments in Colorado Springs.”

Singh is also a pageant queen, and she founded her own nonprofit that empowers at-risk women.
