Love the Bus campaign encourages students to thank bus drivers

A+ News

They’re the unsung heroes that protect our most precious cargo. Drivers with Colorado Springs School District 11 alone get 9,600 of our kids to and from school safely each day.

Over the course of a school year, D-11 drivers drove a combined total of 26 million miles. Nationwide, hundreds of thousands of school bus drivers transport more than 26 million children.

The Love the Bus program is one way to say thank you. The goal is to encourage kids to draw a picture, write a note, make cookies, or just let their drivers know how much they’re valued.

“A simple ‘Thank you for what you do.’ ‘We appreciate you,'” District 11 Director of Transportation Nicky Soto said. “Little things like that mean a lot.”

Soto said his drivers still talk about how much a handwritten note from years earlier means to them.
