Colorado Springs Mayor John Suthers honored elementary school students at the U.S. Olympic Training Center Tuesday.

The students are being recognized by their teachers for displaying the U.S. Olympic values of excellence, friendship, and respect.

Thirty students from 17 schools and six area school districts participated in the event.

“We’re the center, the epicenter of the Olympics in the United States, and we want our citizens to understand that, ” Suthers said. “And to the extent that we can spread that message and inculcate in our citizens, and particularly our young people, the values associated with that–excellence, friendship, and respect–it makes for a better community.”

As a congratulations for their achievements, students got a STEM-focused behind-the-scenes tour of the Olympic Training Center.
