Youth Documentary Academy students present their films in Washington D.C.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Each summer, the Youth Documentary Academy trains high school students in all aspects of documentary film production. This year, several of the students visited Congress in Washington D.C., where they were recognized for their films.

In the video above, founder and director Tom Shepard joins us with information on the academy.

Antreise Lacey from Widefield High School tells us about her documentary, “Shade,” which explores the politics of skin color among teenage African-American girls. See it on Vimeo here. 

Bailey Francisco from Fountain-Fort Carson High school tells us about his documentary, “After War,” which tells about the impact of his father’s PTSD and traumatic brain injury on his family. See it on Vimeo here.
