Mayor Suthers, county leaders provide Thursday update on local response to COVID-19

Coronavirus

COLORADO SPRINGS. — Mayor John Suthers, El Paso County Commission Chair Mark Waller, and local hospital leaders held a news conference Thursday to update residents on the local response to the coronavirus pandemic.

Suthers spoke about Colorado’s new stay-at-home order, which Gov. Jared Polis issued Wednesday. He and local health officials also provided an update on the coronavirus situation locally.

Mayor Suthers along with Waller both expressed their frustrations with Governor Polis and how he didn’t inform them prior to his press conference that there would be a stay-at-home order for the entire state.

Mayor Suthers stated Thursday that playgrounds and other recreational outdoor activities will be closed or banned during the stay-at-home act.

He also stated that they will be enforcing the stay-at-home order and charges could potentially be pressed but believes there will be good compliance from the community.
